Qsymia, Belviq and Contrave
Qsymia, Belviq and Contrave are the newest appetite suppressant medications that we prescribe. Since they have been recently approved by the FDA, there are stricter guidelines than the other medications, such as phentermine, we prescribe here. They also require a monthly pregnancy test. We are currently unable to fill these medications in our pharmacy, although there are other pharmacies in the Baton Rouge area that are able to fill it.
To be eligible for any of these medications, you must have a BMI of 30 or greater OR a BMI of 27 or greater with at least ONE co-morbidity factor of either: High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol.
is a combination of phentermine and topiramate. When you are first prescribed qsymia, there is a two-week titration dose before you go up to the normal monthly dose. The first time you are prescribed Qsymia you will receive a 28 day supply of medication, and the following visits you will receive a 30 day supply. Belviq (lorcaserin HCI)
is one of the newest weight loss drugs approved by the FDA. Belviq is a 10 mg tablet taken twice a day. When filling a prescription, Belviq runs around $250 dollars before insurance, although with the coupon we will give you, the monthly cost in the pharmacy should be no more than $75.00 .
